JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Support remains strong for Stutsman County 4-Hers this summer.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, 4-H has needed to adjust its usual summer schedule. With one of the biggest 4-H events cancelled this year, Program Coordinator Robin Barnes says support remained strong for the kids.
Barnes says with the approval from the NDSU Extension Service, they’ll be moving forward with several contests normally held during the fair.
Barnes says supporters are a huge part of local 4-H, providing banners and awards for kids in each competition. Contests are being held, but are closed to the public except for judges and helpers to follow social distancing guidelines. NewsDakota will be posting results for each competition as they are completed.
One of the biggest supporters of local 4-H is the Stutsman County Fair Board, which Barnes says has come up big this summer for the program.
While it’s different from most years, Barnes says all the 4-Hers are excited to be able to participate in their respective competitions.
Another part of the summer programming for 4-Hers is the livestock. Barnes says they’ve teamed up with Troy Orr and Orr Auctioneers in order to hold an online premium livestock auction beginning in July. The auction will be held at orrauctioneers.com beginning July 8th and close July 13th.
