MADISON, S.D. – The NAIA Council of Presidents (COP) announced the changes to the 2020 fall sports season on June 4, due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The changes include a return to play ‘threshold’, a short delay to starting the season and a reduction in the number of contests allowed.
All sports can begin their team practices on Aug. 15.
North Star Athletic Association Commissioner Cory Anderson says one factor in the revamped schedule is who conference teams play during the non-conference season.
Anderson says they also wanted to make sure the teams in the North Star get their right number of games.
The originally scheduled 7-game North Star schedule will stay intact while adding the 2 additional games within the conference membership, beginning on the first allowable date to play on September 12.
Currently, the NAIA intends to host all fall national championship events as currently scheduled.
Valley City State will play Presentation College, Mayville State, Waldorf and Dickinson State twice while they play Dakota State once.
Off the schedule for the Vikings is the Paint Bucket Game versus the University of Jamestown. That was to be played August 29th. But Anderson says steps are being taken to play that fame at the end of the season.
Below is the new Viking football schedule for 2020:
