FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – As organizers, city leaders, and police ask that today’s community celebration planned at Island Park near downtown Fargo to remember George Floyd remains peaceful, authorities are prepared for any violence based on numerous threats made on social media.

Mayor Tim Mahoney addressed that during a special city commission meeting yesterday:

City commissioners voted to extend the emergency declaration issued by Mahoney last Saturday until Monday, June 15th.

It can be extended or dropped sooner.

Fargo’s Emergency Operations Center remains in place, windows at police headquarters are boarded up, concrete barricades are set up to the entrance to Fargo City Hall, and the downtown Fargo Public Library and Fargo Municipal Court are closed in response to the threats
