JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Following escalated protests and riots nationwide in response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, tensions have risen in other communities including Jamestown.
Jamestown Police have received hundreds of calls from concerned citizens of what they believe to be “indications of riots.” Jamestown Police Chief Scott Edinger says they have been responding to these calls and addressing them as they come.
“We have patrols all over the city,” Chief Edinger stated. “There are emergency personnel on the highways even. We’ve had rumors of buses with tinted windows bringing groups of protestors, which have not been true. We’ve even gotten phone calls about piles of bricks near construction sites.”
When asked about graffiti found at the Island on Jamestown Reservoir with reference to other nationwide protests, Chief Edinger says it could be the work of someone local.
“Every nationwide protest or event has popped up in Jamestown,” Chief Edinger explained. “We see this all the time, but we don’t know if it’s someone local or not.”
Chief Edinger says at this time, they have not seen anything indicating protests or riots in Jamestown, but says they remain ready if anything were to happen. Follow the Jamestown Facebook page for more details when they become available.
