beautification-2

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Beautification Committee delivered 17 planters around Valley City this past week. The committee is made up of volunteer members whose mission is to beautify the city and make Valley City a desirable place to live, work and play.

Some of the activities of the committee include putting out planters with flowers in the spring, writing tree grants, caring for the trees and shrubs that have been placed via the tree grants, and more. Over 1000 trees and shrubs have been planted in Valley City because of the tree grants and the committee’s work.

The Valley City mayor, Dave Carlsrud, is a member of the committee and this week has logged many volunteer hours pruning trees that were placed because of the tree grants. The community may have seen other members who have been out also pruning trees along 5th Avenue NE and weeding the base of the trees.

“Hats off to the Beautification Committee volunteers and other volunteers who beautify our city, including those who plant and care for Hinschberger park and the Hi-Line Orchard”, states Sharon Buhr, Beautification Committee chair. She also thanks the Open Door Center who commits to watering the planters all summer. Buhr invites anyone interested in volunteering to give her a call at 840-0973.
