Clifford “Cliff” Holter, 85, Dazey, ND passed away surrounded by his family at his home on May 13, 2020. A private funeral service for Cliff will be held. He will be laid to rest in St. Catherine Cemetery, Valley City, ND.
Clifford Allen Holter was born May 26, 1934 in Kenmare, ND to Elmer and Ethel (Elige) Holter. He grew up in the Kenmare and Coteau, ND area. On November 25, 1958, he began his time in the US Army. Cliff served in German and was honorably discharged March 31, 1963.
In 1960, he married Beverly Boltz. He and Bev had two children, Roger and Carol. While they were living in Minot, Cliff worked at Court House 66 and Rice Oil as a mechanic. He filled some extra time helping area farmers. Beverly passed away in 1975.
On October 16, 1976, Cliff married Jo Sattler, adding her children, Brenda and Jim to his. Cliff and Jo welcomed their own daughter, Anita to the family a little while later.
After Cliff retired for the first time in 1998, they moved to Valley City, ND. Cliff couldn’t stand to not be busy so began doing mechanic work for Wick Construction and helping out the area farmers. His second retirement came in 2010.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City and the VFW Post 2764.
Cliff had many loves…dancing, Western movies (especially John Wayne), Bingo, gambling. He enjoyed being outdoors whether it be doing yard work, camping, fishing, or hunting. Above all else, Cliff loved his family. He loved them so much and was loved by so many that he was “dad” or “grandpa” to everyone.
Jo passed away April 5, 2019. Not too long after, Cliff moved in with his daughter, Anita and her family. It was there that he was able to spend his last days with his beloved family. He was able to hear them laugh and tell stories. He passed away May 13, 2020.
Besides all of his “adopted” family, he leaves his children, Roger Holter, Brenda (Jeff Kunze) Everson, Jim Moser, Carol (Bob) Grenz, and Anita (Travis) Kunze; grandchildren, Shawntae, Shayla, Shantel, Billy, Jesse, Timothy, Brittney, Amanda (Shane), Rochelle, Jerica, and Jared; great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Gavin, Jacoby, Jaxton, Kingston, Calvin, Jayden, Teagan, Oakley, and Myles; brother, Lloyd (Mariea) Holter; sister, Hazel Gleave; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Bev and Jo; brothers, Emil and Howard; and a sister, Faye.
