JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – When Mr. Eddy Delzer became principal of Louis L’Amour school, he brought with him his 7 mindsets to educate the whole child.
Delzer says these 7 mindsets were all combined to create their Passion First Innovation Week in 2019.
Delzer says an example was having 2nd and 5th graders collaborate. What they came up with was a soccer field that would be proportionate on their playground. He says they tied in academics with that, but says this allowed students to discover their own passions and interests.
While the week was successful, this year they were unable to complete Innovation Week because of the pandemic. Delzer says staff and parents met in order to create what they’ve now called Family Passion Days, which began April 29th and go every Wednesday.
Delzer stated that Louis L’Amour staff have created an action plan of what different things parents and their kids can explore for Family Passion Days. Some of these include baking a family recipe, starting a garden, learning to fill a bike tire and oil chains, and even sewing.
Delzer added that a big reason for the success of Family Passion Days was parents and guardians who have been supportive of the initiative.
“We cannot thank them enough for their hard work, dedication, and partnership not only during these unprecedented times, but under normalcy as well,” Delzer stated.
