OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Future Jamestown Jimmie Nicole Schmitz was named to the North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA)/Optimists all-star volleyball roster last week.
The reigning player of the year added another accolade to her volleyball career and views the all-star game as a great opportunity.
“Being able to play with some of the best players in the state, will for sure be an experience of a lifetime,” said Schmitz via text. “I can’t wait to make memories and friendships with the other girls,” added Schmitz.
The NDHSCA all-star series is divided into two days. As of now, the series is still scheduled for June 15th at Fargo Davies High School and June 16th at Bismarck Century High School. With the current COVID-19 restrictions, sports have been put on hold, but that hasn’t stopped Schmitz from getting some reps in.
“I went to a couple JO practices before this chaos,” noted Schmitz. “Along with just going outside when it’s not snowing out and playing back and forth with my siblings. So I have had some contact with volleyball, not as much as I would but it’s what will have to work for now,” added Schmitz.
After the NDHSCA/Optimists All-Star game Schmitz will gear up for the NAIA season at the University of Jamestown. Schmitz was set to move in August 5th, but the COVID-19 situation has pushed the date back to August 12th.
“It’s less time to prepare for the season but I’m confident in the coaching staff and team they have at UJ and no matter what the situation is we will for sure get to work whenever we can!,” said Schmitz.
Joining Schmitz on the East All-Stars team is fellow Region 3 athlete Carrington’s Addison Hoornaert and fellow Class B athletes Macy Jordheim from Thompson and Julia Bogart from Oak Grove.
