JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – An act of kindness by a local Boy Scout Troop helped brighten up the days of some staff and residents of Ave Maria Village.

Boy Scout Troop #163 made more than 100 cards which were then delivered to Ave Maria Village earlier this week. Scout Zach Hanson introduced his troop and their project to Peggy Widmer, Activity Director.

“He just beamed and told me to tell the residents they are all thinking of them and they wanted to do something for the residents,” Widmer stated.

“Not only did the troop make cards for the residents, but they went above and beyond and made cards for our staff, too. They are so thoughtful.

Widmer says some of the residents who don’t get a lot of regular mail really cherished the handmade cards.

“These cards really brighten up their days in ways many other things can’t. The cards tell the resident they are thought of and remembered. It is special during these uncertain times.”

Development Director Annie Hancock says they appreciate what the troop did as well as the continued support from the community.

“People and different groups in our community have stepped up enormously in the absence of visitors at Ave Maria Village,” Hancock stated. “Treats, cards, hearts on the windows, pictures from daycares, decorations for the holidays, and the list goes on–it is truly heart warming to see how many people out there have a heart for the elderly and specifically, Ave Maria Village.”
