JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Salvation Army announced today that its Jamestown Family Store, which had temporarily closed due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, will be permanently closed effective immediately.
The store, located at 210 Business Loop West, was housed in a building that was damaged by heavy snow this past winter, and it is scheduled to be demolished later this month.
“It’s not easy to close something that the people of Jamestown have enjoyed for many years,” said Major Judy Lowder, leader of The Salvation Army in Jamestown. “We made a concentrated effort to find a suitable location to move into, but we were unsuccessful after several months of searching.”
Lowder was quick to add that only the Family Store is closing—The Salvation Army Worship and Service Center, located at 320 1st Ave. N., will continue its operations unabated. Among the services offered there are food pantry, Pathway of Hope, rent and utility assistance, adult and youth programming and more.
In addition, the Worship and Service Center will now begin accepting clothing donations and will soon be hosting a monthly “Freebie Friday” event, during which clients can select clothing items they need at no cost.
“The mission of The Salvation Army has always been to help those in need,” Lowder said. “We’re excited to be able to help meet families’ clothing needs through our Freebie Fridays program, which will launch once the COVID-19 threat is under control.”
