JAMESTOWN, N.D. (UJ) – On Saturday, March 21, University of Jamestown President Dr. Polly Peterson announced that the University will move to online learning through the end of the school year to support prevention efforts aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

“Unfortunately, with the rapidly changing circumstances that inform and influence our decisions, we have concluded that it is in the best interest of all that we move to an online learning environment for the remainder of the spring semester,” explained Dr. Peterson in her message.

Previously, the University planned to have students return to in-person classes on Tuesday, April 13.

“We have engaged in continuous communication with the ND Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, members of the ND State University System, and the Governor’s office as we reached this decision,” explained Dr. Peterson.  “Together, we are united in our nation’s efforts to slow the spread of the novel Coronavirus. Thus, we feel it is in the best interest of our UJ community that we make this decision now so that our students, faculty and staff have the time necessary to plan accordingly.”

Campus housing will continue to remain open with available dining options. To read Dr. Peterson’s full announcement, which includes information on commencement ceremonies, as well as past announcements pertaining to COVID-19, please visit uj.edu/coronavirus.
