Fargo N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Fargo announced today that they have surpassed their sandbag making goals for this spring’s possible flooding.  This comes after Fargo and Cass County lowered their goal from 400,000 sandbags to 225,000.  The change was made after the National Weather Service lowered their expected crest numbers Thursday.

Here is a news release from the City of Fargo:

This afternoon, The City of Fargo and Cass County surpassed their unified goal of producing 225,000 sandbags to provide protection from a 38-foot Red River crest, including calculations for two feet of freeboard. In four days of Sandbag Central operations, volunteers produced a total of 232,000 sandbags. Sandbag Central Operations will cease at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. All sandbag-filling equipment will remain assembled and ready for the next several weeks

“The incredible effort of volunteers from the Fargo metro and statewide community have helped ensure this is another successful flood fight. I cannot overstate my gratitude to all of the volunteers who offered their time and efforts, in addition to our partners in the media who helped amplify this important community message. I would also like to thank all of the members of team Fargo, as this response would not have been possible without City of Fargo staff,” remarked Fargo Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney.

“We are grateful to the citizens of Cass County and the greater community for their efforts. This flood fight has put front and center our area’s incredible sense of community. When a response is needed, everyone shows up, as they always have. It’s incredible. The County is grateful for our partnership with The City of Fargo and other local and state leaders,” said Cass County Commission Chair Chad Peterson.
