JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Agencies, businesses, organizations, and events are taking measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Jamestown.
The first case in North Dakota was confirmed in Ward County on Wednesday. The man had confirmed contact with someone who had the virus while traveling outside the state.
With this in mind, the University of Jamestown announced they would be suspending in-person classes and activities through Sunday, March 22nd and resuming on March 23rd.
“Although the risk to the campus community is relatively low at this time, we believe it is important to proceed with caution and provide extra time for the University to consider its options in collaboration with its academic and athletic partners,” President Polly Peterson stated in an email.
All University-sponsored international travel planned through May 31st is also being canceled at this time.
Eventide Senior Living Communities is also restricting visitors to their campuses as a precaution to protect residents against the spread of coronavirus.
“Protecting our residents’ health and safety is our top priority,” says Jon Riewer, CEO. “As a result, we are taking necessary steps to prevent an outbreak.”
No visitors will be allowed except in special circumstances, such as end-of-life or when essential for a resident’s emotional well-being. The policy follows recommendations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Eventide has facilities in Moorhead, Minnesota, and in four North Dakota communities: Fargo, West Fargo, Jamestown and Devils Lake.
Events are also being affected by the global pandemic. The NAIA announced the cancellation of multiple events including the National Women’s Wrestling Invitational originally scheduled for this weekend in Jamestown.
