DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Rockets of New Rockford/Sheyenne season came to an abrupt ending on Monday night after falling to the Dragons of Dunseith 58-53 in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Class B Region 4 Boys basketball tournament at the Devils Lake Sports Center. The Rockets received votes for the top 10 teams in the State of North Dakota in the final poll that came out earlier in the day and were rated as high as sixth earlier in the season. NR/S finished second in the District 7 tourney in Devils Lake the week before, falling to No. 1 Four Winds/Minnewaukan in the championship game. The Dragons were unrated and the number three seed from District 8, but came out strong in the second half against the Rockets.
The Rockets led 31-23 at halftime and seemed to be cruising to another appearance in the semifinal. But the Dragons outscored the Rockets 20-7 in the third quarter to take a 43-38 lead, aided by Sophomore Ethan Morin, dropping in 10 of his total 21 points in the third quarter. Senior Gabe Davis had 17, including five 3-pointers. NR/S was led by Senior Bo Belquist with 17, including five 3-pointers. The Dragons improve to 13-10 overall and will play in the second semifinal on Tuesday night against No. 6 St. John. The first semifinal features No. 1 Four Winds/Minn. against RV Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich.
