VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Fargo South jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and it looked like Valley City was going to struggle with the Bruins, but a 12-0 run to take the lead and a strong second half lifted the Hi-Liners to a 67-44 win over the visiting Bruins in the play-in game of the Eastern Dakota Conference Tournament.
Now the seventh seeded Hi-Liners will take on second seed Fargo Shanley in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at Shanley.
After South’s great start, the Hi-Liners got their first field goal 4:38 into the game on a basket by Brooke Eggermont. Both Eggermont and Noeske had eight points in the first half which Valley City lead 28-26 at the break.
But the Hi-Liners would take over by scoring the first nine points of the second half and hold South scoreless for the first 5:54 of the half. South’s first field goal came on Adie Wagner’s three pointer with 10:38 remaining. Wagner led South with 19 points and was the only Bruin in double figures.
Eggermont led the Hi-Liners with 18 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. Noeske added 17 points, 12 boards and four steals. Jadyn Dieterle had 10 second half points and finished with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and five steals. Peyton Pederson had eight points and eight rebounds.
Valley City is now 9-13 on the season. South ends the yea5r 3-19. Valley City will play second seed Fargo Shanley on Tuesday at Fargo Shanley. Tip-off is at 5pm, coverage begins at 4:45 on AM 1490 KOVC/96.3 FM and newsdakota.com.
