JAMESTOWN, N.D (NewsDakota.com) – Day one of the District 5 Boys Basketball Tournament is in the books and Oakes, Ellendale, and LaMoure/Litchville-Marion each picked up wins to advance to the semifinals today at the Jamestown Civic Center.

Oakes 51, Barnes County North 50

Steele Hansen hit two free throws with 7.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter to lift Oakes to a thrilling 51-50 win over Barnes County North.

Hansen was fouled driving to the basket as the game clock was winding down and the Tornadoes trailing by one. A 57 percent free throw shooter on the season, Hansen calmly swished both shots to give his team the lead.

BCN had a chance on the other end when a jump ball was called when Tristin Roaldson was tied up driving to the hoop. The officials put a half a second back on the clock to give the Bison .7 seconds to inbounds the ball and try and win the game. When the initial inbounds hit the bottom of the backboard, a discussion began as to whether or not it was tipped by Hansen or was an errant inbounds pass. After the discussion, the Bison were given another chance with .5 seconds remaining but could not get a shot off.

Ashton Biesterfeld led the Tornadoes with 18 points, 11 rebounds and two steals.Garrett Meehl scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half. Hansen ended with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Colby Brunner led Barnes County North with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double, Tucker Brown  had 13 points and Roaldson had 10 points and a game high four assists.

Ellendale 58, Carrington 51

Ellendale had a 26-10 lead late in the second quarter thanks to an 11-0 run, but then had to hold off Carrington down the stretch for the 58-51 win.

Carrington never led in the game, but out scored Ellendale 39-32 in the second half.

Scott Wagner had a big game for Ellendale scoring 19 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. Hunter Thorpe was also in double figures with 15 points.

Seth Nelson filled the stat sheet for Carrington. He had 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks, all team highs. Hudson Topp added 13 points.

LaMoure/Litchville-Marion 46, Midkota 25

Midkota got the first points of the game on a three-pointer from Logan Topp, they would not get another field goal until 12:39 later. In the meantime, L-L-M was building a 20 points halftime lead and never looked back in the 46-25 win.

Corbin Potts led a balanced scoring attack for the Loboes with 14 points. He added a game high seven rebounds. Colton Ness and Rory Gentzkow each had eight points, Benji Heyd and Landon Piehl had six points each.

Jory Boote led the Mustangs with eight points.Topp finished with seven.
