JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Region 3’s two semifinal games did not disappoint Tuesday night from Jamestown Civic Center. After the dust settled, LaMoure-Litchville/Marion and Kidder Count will meet for the second straight year in the Region 3 Championship this Thursday.

Here’s how the two teams punched their tickets to championship night:

LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 53, Medina-Pingree/Buchanan 41

LLM is headed to its second straight Region 3 Championship game after leading wire to wire in the first semifinal last night. The Loboes grabbed the lead right away and carried a seven point lead into the second quarter. The lead expanded to 12 in the first half, and MPB was struggling shooing the ball. The Thunder did a good job to weather the storm and pull the deficit to six points entering halftime.

In the second half, MPB continued to hang around but could never gain the traction needed on offense to catch up with LLM. As a team, the Thunder shot 0-13 from outside the 3-point line and just 31 percent from the floor.

While MPB struggled, LLM kept improving. The Loboes shot 47 percent in the second half and went 6 of 8 at the free throw line to ice the game away. In total, four of the five starters recorded double-digit scoring.

LLM’s leading scorer was Mollie Robbins who finished with 14 points on 5-6 shooting. Ellie Holen had 13, Kaylynn Siedschlag had 12 with a couple 3’s and Molly Musland had 10.

Ryleigh Martin scored 12 points to lead the way for MPB.

Kidder County 49, Carrington 44

At the start of the quarterfinals Carrington fell behind by 10 out of the gates, but during last night’s semifinal Carrington flipped the script and started the game on a 10-0 run.

Kiera Eli hit a couple early 3’s and Carrington would hold on to a lead until the 2nd half. Carrington was up five headed to the final frame and that’s when Kidder County’s Maddie Schmidt took over.

Schmidt went off and finished with a tournament high 29 points. Almost half of those points came in the 4th quarter. Her biggest shot of the night came with just over a minute to play when she knocked down a long 3-pointer to give Kidder County a two possession lead. Led by Schmidt, Kidder County went on a 23-13 run to close the game and snatched their second straight Region 3 Championship game birth.

Carrington held a 38 to 31 shooting percentage advantage but Kidder County outscored Carrington 16-0 at free throw line.

Thursday night will open with the 3rd place game at 6:00 between Carrington and Medina-Pingree/Buchanan.
