JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County 4-H hosted its 3rd Annual 4-H Equine Quiz Bowl contest on February 22nd at the University of Jamestown Orlady Hall.

Eight counties brought in 8 junior teams and 5 senior teams for a total of 50 youth ages 8 to 18. The double elimination tournament started at 9:30 am and awards were presented at 2:30 pm. A quiz bowl consists of 2 teams of 3-5 members, who buzz in to answer horse trivia questions and are given points for correct answers with high score winning the round. Each individual also receives a score for correct answers.

Three age divisions were given high point individual awards. Beginners, aged 8 to 10, high point individual awards were sponsored by Kingsley Equine of Wheatland. 1st place receiving an embroidered bridle bag was Nadia Lemer of Ward County, 2nd place receiving a ribbon and a tail bag was Sadie Lemer of Ward County, and 3rd place receiving a ribbon and a tail comb was Morgan Baldwin of Stutsman County.

The junior, age 11-13, high point individual awards were sponsored by A Moment of Freedom, Annie Keffeler. 1st place, embroidered bridle bag, was Hailey Schauer – Ward County, 2nd place, ribbon/tail bag, was Jacob Lyons – Ransom County, and 3rd place, ribbon/comb, was Ashley Lindberg – Foster County. The senior, age 14-18, high point individual awards were sponsored by Bob & Kris Wenzel of Buchanan. 1st place, embroidered bridle bag, was Kendra Cleghorn – Stutsman County, 2nd place, ribbon/tail bag, was Anne Schauer – Ward County, and 3rd place, ribbon/comb, was Natasha Lesmann – Foster County.

There were two age divisions for the teams, junior ages 8-13, and senior, ages 14-18, with the top three teams of each division being awarded ribbons.

The 1st place junior team, sponsored by On Tap Equine Services LLC, Kelli Connolly, each winning a ribbon and a tail comb, was Ward County – members of the team were Sophia Lebrum, Nadia Lemer, Sadie Lemer and Hailey Schauer. 2nd place junior team was Sargent/Kidder Counties – members from Sargent county were Mia Bopp, Brooklyn Bosse, Samantha Timmeran, along with Alea Kramlich from Kidder County. 3rd place junior team was Ransom County with members Adaleene Hansen, Adria Holub, Jessilynn Lund & Jacob Lyons.

The senior 1st and 2nd places were sponsored by Bob & Kris Wenzel of Buchanan. 1st place team was Ward County with members Haley Buck, Emily Fannik and Anne Schauer. 2nd place team was Ramsey/Sargent Counties with Ramsey members Bailey Hawn and Rochelle Jacobson, and Sargent County members Abby Erickson an Anna Hoistad. The 3rd place team was Stutsman County with Lexys Griffith, Kendra Cleghorn and Haylee Widman.

Victoria Christensen and photographer Kathryn Hetletvedt, 4-H Ambassadors from Stutsman County helped present awards.

“A special thank you goes out to the volunteers who made this contest possible; they worked at the head tables and monitored the matches,” Robin Barnes stated.

Volunteers include: Victoria Christensen, Shania Rickford, Kathryn Hetletvedt, Jacie Bopp, Michele Well, Kari Furhman, Laurie Christensen, Sue Karn, Megan Karlowski, Morgan Well, Shelley Fossen, Christine Bopp, Jason Lura, Susan Scott and Kelli Connolly.
