BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown boys hockey club needed two wins in a row to make the State Tournament.

Mission accomplished.

In back-to-back games Jamestown put up seven goals and beat Dickinson 7-3 Saturday afternoon to advance to Fargo and the State Tournament.

A quick start boosted Jamestown out of the gates. Nolan Nenow scored his third goal of the tournament over three minutes into the game to give the Jays the lead in the first state qualifier of the day. Later in the period Tommy Falk kick started his great day by scoring at the 12:14 mark to give the Jays a 2-0 lead.

Needing some momentum, Dickinson’s Ethan Lawrey gave some life to Dickinson with a tip-in goal with under 11 seconds to play in the first period. Lawrey’s momentum shift carried into the second period, and Dicksinson tied the game at two on a Brayden Urlacher goal.

Jamestown dominated the rest of the way.

Both teams had 2-0 scoring runs in the first 21 minutes of the game. Then Jamestown grabbed the game by the horns and scored five unanswered goals. Falk scored one more in each of the last two periods to notch the hat trick while Hunter Nelson scored a pair of goals during the stretch.

Each team added a goal late in the game to finish at 7-4 in favor of Jamestown.

The Jays will represent the West Region as the 4 seed and will take on top seeded Grand Forks Red River at 5:30 Thursday evening at Scheels Arena in Fargo. Coverage of Jays hockey can be heard on 1400AM, 107.1FM ESPN Jamestown and online at newsdakota.com
