Hi-Liners Will Have 10 Wrestlers Place At State Tourney

FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It has been a year of firsts and school records for Valley City wrestling. Saturday the year will end with another record, 10 wrestlers will place. The old school record wa seven. And two will be wrestling for state titles.

At 106, Koye Grebel will wrestle LJ Arajuo of Bismarck for the championship. Araujo defeated Koye last year and ended his tournament. Grebel defeated Gabe Mortensen of Minot 9-0 in the semifinals.

At 160, Parker Larson will wrestle Chase Burke of Minot for the title. Larson took 3rd at 138 in 2019. Larson defeated Ty Weber of Fargo Davies 7-2 in the semifinals.

At 113, Ethan Miller lost to defending state champ Christian Tanefu of Bismarck by fall at 3:12. Miller will take on the winner of Tyson Gass and Ethan Dennis in the consolation 4th round.

at 120, Bennett Rogelstad defeated Isaak Boekelman of Watford City in the consolation 2nd round. Rogelstad will meet Hunter Owens of Wahpeton in the 3rd round.

At 126, Austin Rogelstad defeated Clayton Nissko of Fargo Davies 9-6 in the consolation 2nd round. He will take on Tyler Porter in the 3rd round today.

Espen Kunze lost to David Arop of Davies 13-12 in the consolation 2nd round at 132 to end his tournament.

Evan Mielke lost to Sawyer Frie of Davies by fall at 5:00 at 138 to end his tournament.

Ezra Hanse is in the 3rd round at 152. He defeated Brayden Gerhardt of Devils Lake by fall in 2:12 to move on. He will take on Tate Laducer in the 3rd round today.

Broden Muske picked up a 2nd round win over Luke Lengenfelder of Bismarck St. Mary’s 9-1. He will meet Ethan Mitchell of Bismarck Legacy in the 3rd round.

At 182, Jonathan Redfearn bounced back with a pin of Owen McGinness at 2:06 in the 2nd round. Redfearn will face Rylen Ried in the 3rd round.

At 195, Jonah Schuldheisz lost in the semifinals to Jacob Carmichael 13-4. Schuldheisz will face the winner of Robby Serumgard of Devils Lake and Austin Bicker of Grand Forks Central.

Carson McGough defeated Logan Gjerdevig of Wahpeton 7-0 in the 2nd round. He will take on Braden Jongeward in the 3rd round.

And Austin Hearlson lost to Van Smith of Williston by fall at 285. That ended Hearlson’s season.

The consolation 3rd and 4th rounds will begin at 10am with 3rd, 5th, and 7th place matches to follow.

The Class A Championships will begin at 3pm.
