HANKINSON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Kya Mauch scored 14 of her game high 17 points in the second half as Hankinson pulled away from Maple Valley for a 43-35 win in a Play-In game in the Region 1 Girls Basketball tournament Thursday in Hankinson.
Mauch added 10 rebounds for the double-double. Jasmin Mauch and Sadie Keller each had eight points. Keller dished out five assists for the Pirates who improve to 10-10 on the year.
Iris Richman led the Raiders with 13 points and Courtney Hovelson had a game high 12 rebounds.
Maple Valley got within one at 32-31 with an 11-2 run in the fourth quarter. But Hankinson ended the game on a 11-4 run to advance to the Region 1 quarterfinals on Monday. The Raiders end the season 5-16.
Hankinson will now face Richland in the quarterfinals. The Colts defeated Fargo Oak Grove 53-37. In the other play-in games, Tri-State downed Sargent Central 64-57. Milnor-North Sargent got by Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 70-66 and the lone lower seed to win, Lisbon ended the game on a 18-5 run to upset Enderlin 55-46.
The Region 1 tournament now shifts to Fargo and the Scheels Center at the SHAC Monday beginning with top seed and number one ranked Kindred taking on Tri-State at 3pm.
