FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It’s an all West Region semifinal at the State Dual Wrestling Tournament at the Fargodome. Bismarck, Bismarck Century, Minot and Jamestown all won in the quarterfinals Thursday at day 1 of the State Wrestling Tournament.

Jamestown and Valley City split their two matches this season. Jamestown winning 38-34 at the Sertoma Dual Tournament in Grand Forks in December. The Hi-Liners won 39-30 at the Hi-Liner Activity Center on the final day of the regular season.

Thursday, the Blue Jays took the tie breaker, 47-27, at the State Dual Tournament.

Austin Kessler and Damien Krebs started things off for the Jays with pins at 220 and 285 respectively.

Koye Grebel got the Hi-Liners on the board with a pin of Grady Anderson at 1:06.

Aden Braun won by decision, 9-4 over Ethan Miller at 113. Bennett Rogelstad wasted little time making it 15-12 when he pinned Sam Schlepeutz in 31 seconds.

But Jamestown would pull away in the middle weights taking the next five bouts, three by falls and two by major decision. Talor Huebner and Joel Bowman won by major decision at 126 and 132 respectively. Colton Mewes, Jackson Walters and Noah Braun all won by fall. When the dust settled, the Jays were up  41-12. There was no way Valley City could comeback and win. Parker Larson and Broden Muske won by fall at 160 and 170. Johnny Browning won by fall at 182 and Jonah Schuldheisz won by 4-3 decision, getting a two point reversal as time expired for the win.

The Hi-Liners fall to 12-5 overall and Jamestown improves to 14-7.

With the clean sweep by the west, it will mark the fourth straight year that west teams will occupy places 1-4.
