JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Even with no fishing derby in 2020, the Jamestown Rural Fire Department (JRFD) will still be holding their raffle to raise money to assist with operating costs and equipment.

The annual Ice Fishing Derby was canceled for 2020 after ice restrictions were put into effect on the Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs this winter. However, the JRFD will still be holding their large raffle and event on February 22nd.

Firefighter and JRFD Secretary Travis Lemieux says they’ve also been able to purchase gear, helmets and equipment for their crew.

Fire Chief Brian Paulson says the fundraising also helps alleviate the costs that taxpayers may see otherwise.

Paulson pointed out that without the fishing portion of the event, they’ve had a lack in raffle ticket sales. He says a business has stepped up to provide a $1,000 door prize just for coming to the event.

Lemieux added that they still have plans, barring any future barriers, to bring the derby back in 2021.

Chief Paulson said they would welcome anyone to come and enjoy the concert beginning at 8 PM, which is open to all.

Raffle tickets are $25 and can still be purchased at the KC Hall or Cork & Barrel Liquors in Jamestown. Burger baskets will be served for $5 beginning at 6 PM with the raffle to follow at 8 PM. You can view some of the raffle items and more about the event at jrfd.org.
