JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Finance & Legal Committee held several discussions regarding the Frontier Village Tuesday evening.

First on the docket was leases with Frontier Village Tenants. Leases were considered from Jbros, Jamestown Fine Arts Association, RSVP and more. Councilmember Steve Brubakken inquired why all the leases were different prices for each entity.

Jamestown Tourism Executive Searle Swedlund.

Some leases were lower than others based on the buildings owner and what each leasee planned to do with the building they were leasing over the summer.

Also discussed was the stagecoach agreement with Karen George. Councilmember Dave Steele asked if insurance had been placed on the stagecoach rides and equipment.

Swedlund says they would be assisting with that.

Final discussion on the Frontier Village property was the proposed 2020 city portion of the budget. City Administrator Sarah Hellekson says they went over the budget, estimating that the city could operate the village property at a $11,000 loss for 2020.

Brubakken asked how the city would cover costs such as the $8,200 to the City Parks and Recreation Department for maintenance.

Hellekson says everything on the budget was just proposed, but says because the property belongs to the city, most of the expenses would be up to the city to cover.

Brubakken stated his concerns for how the property would be paid for in the future.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich added that while the committee’s concern on cost was warranted, it was important to remember how the city found themselves in this situation.

Heinrich says what the city and Tourism was working on is assessing what they have and how to go forward. He says it could take a year or two before everything is property assessed and evaluated for future entities to operate the Frontier Village.

No action was taken on the operation and maintenance budget for the Frontier Village property.
