VALLEY CITY,N.D. (NewsDakota..com) – It a preview of the state dual tournament quarterfinal match, Valley City faced Jamestown in the final match of the triangular Friday night at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.

Valley City 39, Jamestown 30

And as expected it came down to the final weight class. Ethan Miller, ranked fourth at 113 faced Pete Rasmussen. The Hi-Liners led the match 35-30. All Miller had to do was win to give the Hi-Liners the match. He did just that, 9-0. The major decision made the final score 39-30. Valley City avenged a 34-32 loss to the Blue Jays at the GF Sertoma tournament back in December.

The match did not start out well for Valley City. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 15-0 lead after the first three weight classes. Adan Braun, ranked 2nd at 113,  had a pin at 120. Talor Huebner won by decision,4-3, over Austin Rogelstad at 126. Joel Bowman the 5th ranked wrestler in the state at 126, won by fall at 5:06 at 132.

The Hi-Liners first win came at 138 when Espen Kunze won by fall at 3:57. Tyson Hovland number five in the state,  won an exciting match at 145. Winning 2-1 with an escape in overtime to make it 15-9 Blue Jays.

Noah Braun for Jamestown, ranked third at 152 won by fall at 1:18 to make it 21-9. Ezra Hanse and Parker Larson both won by pins at 160 and 170 respectively to tie the match at 21.

Johnny Browning won by pin a5 182 to make it 27-21 Jamestown. Jonah Schuldheisz pinned Coty Huebner, the sixth ranked wrestler at 182, at 195 in 1:37 to give the Hi-Liners to tie it up again at 27.

Jonathan Redfearn won by decision, 7-0, at 220 to make it 30-27. Damien Krebs of Jamestown, ranked fourth at 285 won 5-1 to tie it up again at 30.

Then Koye Grebel, number two in the state at 106 defeated Grady Anderson, number five at 106, 18-3 with a tech fall at 5:39 to put the Hi-Liners back up 35-30. Then Ethan Miller sealed it with his win at 113.

Valley City 45, Bismarck Legacy 27

The Hi-Liner came out strong against the Sabres picking up pins in three if the the first four bouts. Ethan Miller pinned Caden Eckroth in 16 seconds at 113. Bennett Rogestad pinned Isaac Mithcell in 3:30 at 120.

Austin Rogelstad fell to Jakob Blumhagen 6-0 at 126. Isaiah Schuldheisz won by fall at 132in 4:32.

With Valley City up 18-3, Legacy went on a run winning the next four matches, two by pins and two by decision. That gave the Sabres the lead at 21-18.

The Hi-Liners would put the dual away with four consecutive pins. Parker Larson started it at 170 with a pin in :39. Broden Muske got a pin at 182 in :52. Jonah Schuldheisz pinned Henrik Jacobsen in 1:38 at 195. The run was capped off by Carson McGough pinning Keaton Earhardt with two seconds left in the third period at 220. That win made it 42-21 Hi-Liners and clinched the dual for Valley City.

285 was open for the Hi-Liners to make it 42-27. Koye Grebel defeated Jesse Thompson 9-3 in a matchup of ranked wrestlers. Grebel is ranked 2nd at 106 and Thompson is fourth.

The Hi-Liners will go into the state dual with a 12-4 record and an eight match winning streak.

Jamestown 48, Bismarck Legacy 25

In the first match of the night, Jamestown took on Legacy and the Blue Jays came out on top. The match saw ten pins with Jamestown getting seven of them. Pete Rasmussen at 113, Talor Huebner at 120, Joel Bowman at 132, Noah Braun at 160, Johnny Browning at 170, Coty Huebner at 182, and Damien Krebs at 285. Huebner’s pin at 182 gave the Jays a 39-22 lead and clinch the dual win.

Legacy ends the season 9-9. Jamestown will head to the state dual tournament for the first time in 20 years with a 13-7 record.

The first round of the state dual will be on February 20th at 11am at the Fargodome.
