JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown Jimmie Janes group, in collaboration with the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, is collecting undergarments for victims of sexual assault.

The Jimmie Janes are organizing a drop off of new undergarments, in the original packaging, at the Lyngstad Center on the UJ campus.  The group will also be collecting materials during the UJ Men’s Volleyball game on February 13th at 7pm.  Carlynne Folkestad with the Jimmie Janes organization says they were approached with the idea.

The Jimmie Janes have organized similar fundraising and awareness events in the past, including a cancer awareness night during a UJ Men’s Hockey game in October.  The cancer awareness and the UNDERWEARness events have both been a collaboration between the Janes and JRMC.  Katie Ryan-Anderson with JRMC says they are grateful for the work by the Jimmie Janes.

Ryan-Anderson says JRMC works with Central Valley Health to provide support to victims.  When a sexual assault victim enters their doors, she says every piece of clothing is taken to be examined.

Items can be dropped off at the UJ Men’s Volleyball game on February 13th or in the Lyngstad Center, Feb. 10-21.
