JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Giving Hearts Day is a 24-hour fundraising event for charities in North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.

Since 2008, the day has raised more than $70 million through generous donors. 100% of everything raised goes directly towards one of the 483 participating charities. Those participating also receive matching funds to a set point, with every donation over $10 being matched.

Jamestown has several charities participating in the day. One of them is Victory Christian School.

Bjorn Hanson is a parent and board member for the school. He says they are relying on donations to continue growing their school.

Another area participant is James Valley Youth for Christ. Nick Bruns says they reach young people everywhere and work with local churches and other partners.

Anne Carlsen Center has also been a beneficiary of Giving Hearts Day, having been in the top 5 for fundraising overall through the event.

Kelsey Deragisch says the Anne Carlsen has continued to grow through Giving Hearts Day.

The University of Jamestown has also benefited greatly from the event. Jim Klemann says the biggest benefit though goes to the students with the funds they raise through Giving Hearts Day.

These and several other organizations work together to promote the state’s largest fundraising event. Bruns stated that givingheartsday.org is the site people can go to now or the day of the event to make a donation.

Bruns says they also have an ongoing coloring contest for students in Jamestown and the winners of the contest will receive a gift card to donate to a charity of their choice.

Klemann added that the Dakota Medical Foundation, Impact INstitute, and Alex Stern Family Foundation along with the generous donors has been a major reason that Giving Hearts Day as been so successful.

Only donations made through Giving Hearts Day will be doubled to the charities of your choice. You can visit givingheartsday.org for more information or to make a donation.
