FERTILE, MN (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liners went across the border to the east Saturday to take part in the Northwest Invitational Tournament in Fertile, Minnesota. There were 12 total teams, ten from Minnesota and Grafton joined Valley City as the two North Dakota representatives.
The Hi-Liners placed second in the tournament with 172 points. They were just four points behond first place Bemidji.
For Valley City, 13 wrestlers placed and Koye Grebel was the lone champion taking first at 106. Grebel was 3-0 for the day and defeated Kale Geiser from Thief River Falls 14-1 in the championship.
Three Hi-Liners placed at 113. Ethan Miller was 3-1 and took third. Alex Rogelstad was 2-2 and took 5th and Tucker Johnson was 1-3 and took sixth. Johnson lost to Miller by fall in the consolation semifinals and then Rogelstad defeated Johnson 4-3 in the 5th place match.
Bennett Rogelstad was 2-2 and took 4th at 120.
Austin Rogelstad went 3-1 at 126 and placed third. Tyson Hovland was third at 145 with a 3-1 mark. Ezra Hanse took 5th at 152. He was 2-2 on the day.
Parker Larson lost in the championship at 160 and took second with a 3-1 record. Larson was pinned by Cole Johnson of Thief River Falls early in the second period. Johnson is ranked 6th in Class AA in Minnesota.
Broden Muske placed 4th at 170. He was 3-2 with both losses coming to Jojo Thompson of Deer River. He lost by fall with 1 second left in the third period.
Jonah Schuldheisz was 3rd at 182 going 3-1. At 195, Jonathan Redfearn took 2nd with a 2-1 record. And Carson McGough took home 3rd at 220 going 3-1 the tournament.
The Hi-Liners are back in action Tuesday when they travel to West Fargo to wrap up the EDC schedule. Coverage on 1490 AM KOVC/96.3 FM begins at 6:45 with the varsity to go at 7.
