JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – 10 University of Jamestown students will be participating in the annual Nursing Department trip to Africa this Spring.
Nursing at the University of Jamestown has created many nurses who have found employment at the local level and even at Mayo Clinic.
A large part of the program is the option for students to join a preceptorship either stateside or in Africa. This year, some students will take a preceptorship in Malawi, in Southeast Africa.
“We spend three and a half weeks working in very remote village hospitals, mobile medical clinics, feeding lines, crisis nurseries and we really just experience the culture over their,” states Department Chair Kim Ash. “It is life changing.”
Senior Autumn Ulmer is one of the students participating in the spring trip.
Ulmer says the program gives them a list of needs to be fulfilled with donations and every donation makes a significant difference in the third world country.
Senior Maddie Fronning pointed out that they will be involved with a variety of things during their three week trip. She says other than Ministry of Hope, they work with other organizations.
At this time, the students traveling to Malawi are raising funds to make a life changing donation to those in the country. Sierra Klose says they’re encouraging the public, family, and friends to make a donation to make a difference.
The group has a fundraiser planned through Applebee’s on February 4th. When you purchase a meal at Applebee’s that day and tell them you’re supporting the UJ Nursing students trip, 20% of your meal will be donated to their mission.
You can also make a donation here.
