OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Getting reliable scoring from more than two people has been Oakes’ kryptonite this season but not Tuesday night. The Oakes Tornadoes (7-4) won an out of region home game against Wyndmere/Lidgerwood (1-11) 68-44.
The boys were moving on defense early on as they held Wyndmere/Lidgerwood to just three first quarter points. Meanwhile Oakes’ offense overcame first quarter full of turnovers to post a 38 point first half.
With the Tornadoes up by 19 at the half, Ashton Biesterfeld torched the Warbirds in the the first four minutes of the 3rd quarter to build up an insurmountable lead. Biesterfeld scored the first six points out of the break and eight overall in the third quarter to pull away from Wyndmere/Lidgerwood. Biesterfeld finished with 14 points.
Steele Hansen was once again the leading scorer for Oakes with 26 points and another relentless performance on the offensive boards. Garret Meehl added on 10.
Wyndmere/Lidgerwood was led by Preston Bohnenstinghl with 14 points and Levi Metcalf with 12. Metcalf got hot in limited minutes hitting three from deep.
Oakes faces off against Medina-Pingree/Buchanan Saturday at 5:30.
