JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Three Spring Flood Awareness meetings are scheduled to begin this week in Fargo, Grand Forks, and Jamestown.
The North Dakota State Water Commission and Department of Emergency Services will be the host of each meeting to inform the public about the potential for 2020 spring flood threats and steps people can take to prepare themselves and protect their property.
Brian Hvinden, FEMA Region VIII External Affairs, says a big message they’ll have is looking into flood insurance and preparing for the spring.
Diana Herrera, FEMA Regional Insurance Specialist, says now is the best time to start researching different insurances that can help cover any damage caused by spring flooding.
Herrera says they recommend getting your policies and insurance information straightened out now due to wait period.
Herrera says they’ll be doing some agent training on February 6th in Bismarck for insurance agents. She says insurance agents will be receiving information soon regarding those training’s.
Hvinden says the state of North Dakota has been doing well keeping residents informed about the ongoing situation.
Other agencies that will be at the Jamestown Flood Awareness meeting includes the National Weather Service, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Information on dam operations, current flood forecasts, flood preparedness and mitigation tips, and flood insurance will be available.
The meeting will be held at 5:30 PM in the Civic Center Exchequer Room. The public is encouraged to attend.
