JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Hockey Day North Dakota was tested by hectic weather conditions but that wasn’t going to stop hockey from being played.

Saturday’s slate of games, including the Jamestown High games, were pushed back to Monday, but the games were squeezed in in subzero temperatures for most of the day.

Here’s how the Jamestown Blue Jays fared outdoors:

Girls: Devils Lake 3, Jamestown 1

The first high school game of the day kicked off at 11am with a temp of -5 degrees at puck drop and featured Devil’s Lake (7-5) defeating Jamestown (4-8) for the second time this season.

The first period flew by in the blink of an eye. Limited time stoppages, no penalties and no scores accelerated the first period to what felt like 17 minutes of actual time.

Just over five minutes into the second period, Devil’s Lake Kaylie Kemestrud took the puck coast-to-coast and scored her team leading seventh goal. It was the only goal of the period as Jamestown mustered up just 10 total shots through the first two periods.

Needing a spark in the third period, Jamestown’s Alexis Kirkeby knotted the game up at one. The tie didn’t last for long as Devil’s Lake scored two unanswered from Abbey Reule and Ashlyn Abrahamson to prevail on the outdoor rink.

Jamestown doesn’t get a break as the Jays travel to Fargo Davies tonight for a 5:45 start time.

Boys: Jamestown 5, West Fargo Sheyenne 4

Two teams on four game losing streaks closed out Hockey Day North Dakota Monday Night, and it was the Blue Jays (7-6) ending their losing skid with a 5-4 victory over West Fargo Sheyenne (2-13).

Jamestown jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Nolan Nenow, Cooper Allen and Hunter Nelson scored to open up the significant lead, but Sheyenne didn’t go away. The Mustangs put together a flurry of shots at the end of the first period resulting in a Kamden Coles goal to cut the deficit to 3-1 entering the second period.

The momentum carried through the intermission and Sheyenne added two goals off the stick of Andrew Roth to tie the game less than eight minutes into the period. Sheyenne also made a switch in goal from Tyler Swanson to Peyton Buchholz. Buchholz played well through the first par of the second period before Jamestown’s Tommy Falk broke the tie with about eight minutes left in the period.

A change in goal was also made by the Jays. Riley Gerhardt was relieved by Brode Hillstrom. After Coles scored to open the third period and tie the game once againn, Nenow added his second goal of the night that would give the Jays the lead for good and Hillstrom his first career victory in net.

Jamestown jumps right back into the action tonight with a home game against Dickinson.
