KENSAL, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The frigid temps outside carried into Kensal for the Midkota (4-7) offense as Oakes (8-2) kept Midkota in check in a 65-31 road victory.
The two teams held a competitive 1st quarter. Midkota’s Brenna Anderson, who finished with a team high 11 points, knocked down a couple early three’s and had her team’s first eight points putting the pressure on Oakes early on. The pressure disappeared quickly, however.
With a couple minutes left in the 1st quarter, Midkota dove into a drought without a field goal until halfway through the 3rd quarter and just one point overall during the stretch. Oakes led by just five after the first quarter but capitalized on Midkota’s scoring drought and opened up a 19 point lead at the break.
No one scorer had a tremendous night for Oakes. Instead it was a suitable group effort from the Tornadoes to earn their 4th victory in a row and 4th district win.
The leading scorers were Nicole Schmitz and Sadie Hansen with 13 points.
Oakes’ next time out is Tuesday at home versus Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter.
