JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A man who receives residential services through Triumph Inc. became a hero after saving a staff person’s life.
Richard Kraft had staff working with him in his home when he noticed something wasn’t right.
“This staff is a single gal and would have no one to assist her when she was home,” Triumph Co-Founder Ann Ede says. “She was slurring her speech and seemed very confused. He called for help and ended up getting an ambulance to his apartment. She has been hospitalized and is still recovering from a stroke.”
Ede says if not for Kraft’s swift action, the end results could have been different.
As an Eagle Scout, Kraft says he attributes his action to training through Boy Scouts. Kraft says the most important thing for him was making sure the staff member got help.
“We are extremely proud of his attentiveness and the staff is forever grateful for his action,” Ede stated.
Following these events, Ede says Kraft has decided that it’s important he teach the rest of his peers what to do in similar situations.
Ede says intellectual disability or not, she’s unsure if most anyone, disability or not, may have acted as swiftly as he did.
“Richard has always been such a leader and inspires us to try harder and help others. He frequently donates blood and is a mentor to many of his friends. He is always thinking of others.”
Triumph Incorporated is a community service that works with clients who have a variety of disabilities.
