Jack was born on the family farm outside of Valley City, ND on August 25, 1932 to Emil and Nonna (Strand) Dahl. He grew up on the farm, and in 1950 he graduated from Valley City high school. Upon graduation he joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War. After his service he returned to Valley City and married JoAnn Olson. Jack worked for the city as a policeman and fireman while attending Valley City State University. He was a business teacher before becoming a social worker for the ND Department of Human Services until he retired.
Jack was a long time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Eagles, the VFW, the Elks, and the Valley City Country Club. Jack enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, and spending time with his family.
Along with JoAnn, he raised 5 children; ReNae (Mike) Cooper, Erin and Ross, Roxanne (Randy) Betsinger, Jennifer and John, Rochelle (Kent) Loven, Tricia, Joshua, Andrew, and Madeline, Rory (Kim) Dahl, John and Matthew, Robyn (Mick) Pytlik, Roberta, Melissa, and Michaela. Jack and JoAnn also had 13 great- grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn, his parents, and all 5 bothers, and 1 sister.
Our “Saint” Jack will be forever loved and deeply missed, he passed away in West Fargo, ND at New Perspectives Senior Living on December 31, 2019.
The funeral service for Jack will be on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Valley City at 2:30 PM. He will be buried at Memory Gardens in the spring.
