VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City started off the New Year by hosting Grand Forks Red River and West Fargo Sheyenne in a conference triangular Thursday and coming away with two big wins.

In the first match, Valle City won the first ten bouts with relative ease. Six pins, three forfeits, and a tech fall for a 59-0 lead on the way to a 71-9 win.

The Hi-Liners got forfeits at 106, 138, and 152. Then the got pins by Ethan Miller at 120. Bennett Rogelstad at 126, Austin Rogelstad at 132, Evan Mielke at 145, Ezra Hanse at 160, Parker Larson at 170, Jonathan Redfearn at 195 and Carson McGough at 220.

Top ranked Koye Grebel, wrestling one class up at 113, won by tech fall 16-0 with 43 seconds remaining in the third period.

Ther second match of the night saw West Fargo Sheyenne win 42-36 when they received a forfeit at 106, the last class of the match.

Valley City and Sheyenne wrapped up the night. Bennett Rogelstad and Austin Rogelstad picked up wins at 120 and 126 respectively to give the Hi-Liners the early 6-0 lead. After major decision losses at 132 and 138, the eighth ranked Hi-Liners put it away by taking niner of the next ten bouts. three by fall, four forfeits, a decision and a major decision and winning 55-14.

The falls were  by Parker Larson at 160, Jonah Schuldheisz at 182, and Koye Grebel at 106. Carson McGough won by a 6-1 margin and Ethan Miller won in a major decision 11-0.

With the two wins, Valley City improves to 6-0 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 7-4 overall. They will travel to Bismarck for the Rotary Club Tournament on January 10th and 11th.
