JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Sophistikix compete in Pom, Kick, Jazz, and Hip Hop. But on January 4th, they’ll be trying something entirely new.

The team is set to host the first ever East Meets West Dance Invitational at the Jamestown High School. Second year coach Tricia Seckerson says the idea behind the invitational was two-fold.

The Sophistikix are a part of the North Dakota Dance Association of Dance & Drill and are considered a sport through the Jamestown Schools.

Seckerson reports that 21 teams from across the state have registered including 8 exhibition teams. She says they expect more than 200 dancers and over 70 routines to be performed at the Jamestown High School.

Jamestown Seniors Alexis Smith, Meghan Ray, and Jasmine Hemmer say the invitational means a lot to them and the team.

Ray echoed what Smith had to say about the competition.

Hemmer pointed out that her hope was the invitational would help everyone see that dance is also an important sport for the school.

The Invitational will begin at 9:30 AM. Cost to attend is $6 for adults, $4 for students, kids 5 and under get in free. Those with a Jamestown Public School Activity Pass can also get in.

Seckerson says there will be concessions, 50/50 raffles, and baskets will sales and proceeds going to fund the Sophistikix travel and more.
