OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes boys basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 69-55 victory over Maple Valley Monday night at home.

The Raiders held Oakes without a field goal in the first three plus minutes of the ball game and jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Oakes closed the gap to just three headed into the 2nd quarter, and the offense came to life. Oakes posted 23 points with Alex Muggli and Garret Meehl combining for 20 of the 23.

Meehl finished the game with a team high 21 points and Muggli posted 18.

After the sluggish start, Oakes outscored Maple Valley 52-39 over the last three quarters.

With a better shooting night, Maple Valley could have hung around but failed to consistently knock down the long range shots. The Raiders were lead by Jacob Johnson’s 25 points.

Oakes’ next time out is this Friday night as they welcome in the Ellendale Cardinals for the Cowbell Game. The girls play at 6:00 and the boys will follow 20 minutes after. Both games can be heard on KDDR.
