Students Ashlyn Schauer and Jess Chandler

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High School Student Council has been working on a new project to “Stuff the Civic” and address the food needs of the area.

Ashlyn Schauer & Jess Chandler are two students working on the project. Chandler says she was inspired by a few events including one from the Middle School and one that Fargo school’s hold every year.

Chandler says with this project, they wanted to get not only the schools involved, but also the community.

Schauer says when they were approached with the idea, they voted on it and immediately began working on their plan.

Students have been working with businesses and organizations around the community to place boxes for non-perishable food donations. On December 20th, all donations will be brought to the Jamestown Civic Center for a huge, school-wide event from 12 PM to 6 PM.

Schauer pointed out that community members who want to help are encouraged to donate at those sites or bring food donations to the Civic Center on December 20th.

Students are still finalizing where the food donations will go, but both Schauer and Chandler say all donations will stay local.

Chandler says they’ll also accept monetary donations for their drive.

You can find a full list of sites accepting food donations for the “Stuff the Civic” at stuffthecivic.com or by contacting the Jamestown High School. “Stuff the Civic” will be held from 12 PM to 6 PM at the Jamestown Civic Center and all volunteers are welcome.
