OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes had a 30 point scorer and a 20 point scorer lead them to an opening 75-60 victory over Milnor/North Sargent on opening night.
Offensively, Oakes looked in mid season form. The transition game led to a lot of baskets and ball moment was solid in the half court.
Milnor/North Sargent was able to stay in the game for the first half by knocking down the long ball during stretches and trailed by just five heading into the break.
Coming out of the break, Oakes turned the game on its side and became red hot from the field. The Tornadoes scored 23 third quarter points, carried it over to the 4th quarter and opened up a 20 point lead (biggest of the night). MNS collapsed the deficit down to just 12 points with a little over a minute to go, but didn’t get any closer.
Oakes Junior Steele Hansen turned in a monster performance. Hansen finished with a game high 31 points and made his impact felt on the glass as well.
Junior Garrett Meehl added an impressive 20 points to an overall solid team effort.
Next time out for Oakes will be Monday, December 16th at home against Maple Valley. Tip off is slated for 7:30, pregame show on KDDR will start around 7:15.
