JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The James River Humane Society reports that they gave over 200 dogs and cats a new home in 2019.

The humane shelter has operated since 1985 as a non-profit, giving abandoned, lost, abused, and homeless animals a chance at finding a new home. Board President Gary Sahr says in 2019, they had a great year for their animals.

Sahr says because they operate as a non-profit, they heavily rely not only on monetary donations, but supplies and volunteers to ensure they can maintain the shelter.

He pointed out that the community has been a great help over the years and especially in 2019.

Sahr encourages anyone who would like to help to consider making a donation at their sites around Jamestown. He says you can also stop at the shelter east of Jamestown off of the Bloom exit.

The Humane Society is also urging anyone who is considering adopting a pet to wait until after Christmas. Sahr says giving a pet as a gift may seem like a good idea, but there’s a lot of thinking and planning that needs to go into it first.

For more information on the shelter, visit jamesriverhumanesociety.org or call 701-242-0747. The shelter operates seven days a week from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
