JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Jamestown teacher has been named North Dakota Teacher of the Year by the North Dakota Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

William (Bill) Nelson was announced the Teacher of the Year by the organization. He also serves as the Head Coach for Jamestown High School Football. The Jamestown Public School District congratulated Mr. Nelson on their website.

The North Dakota Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance was established in 1928, with Fred Spalding from Valley City as the first President.

“While the field of education has had many changes in the past 90+ years, our mission has stayed the same,” they state on their website. “[We] encourage and provide professional development and support for HPERD professionals. We accomplish our mission through professional development, newsletters, and networking among our members.”

The organization is made up of public and private school teachers, collegiate professors, and health professionals.
