VALLEY CITY, N.D. ( NewsDakota.com) – The last team the Valley City Hi-Liner wrestling team saw in the 2018-2019 season was Fargo Davies. The Eagles ended the Hi-Liner season with a 49-27 win at the state wrestling tournament.

The first team the Hi-Liners saw in the 2019-2020 season was the very same Eagles, this time the tables were turned. The Hi-Liners won 10 of 13 weight classes to upend the seventh ranked Eagles 46-22.

At 170, Ezra Hanse opened things up losing to Connor Chloupek by fall at 1:53. Chloupek is the 3rd ranked wrestler at 170.

Jonah Schuldheisz downed Ryan Reed 2-1 at 182 to cut the lead in half at 6-3.

At 195, Broden Muske gave the Hi-Liners a brief lead with a fall at 1:52 making it 9-6 Valley City.

Truman Werremeyer, ranked #2 at 220 did not waist any time with a fall at :19 to put the visitors up 12-9. The lead would grow to 18-9 when Arthur Harris received a forfeit at 285. Then the Hi-Liners strengths came through, the lower weights.

#1 ranked Koye Grebel pinned  Liam Wicklow at 1:10, Hi-Liners trailed 18-15.

But they would take the lead for good when Ethan Miller, ranked #6 at 113 won by fall at 3:15, score 21-18 Valley City.

Bennett Rogelstad, #6 at 120, pinned Abdi Nuur at :40 to make it 27-18.

The Isaiah Schuldheisz ended the string of four straight pins with a fall at 1:11 at 126. Hi-Liners up 33-18.

Fargo Davies would score its last point at 132 when Clayto Nissko defeated Espen Kunze 13-4 to cut the lead to 33-22 with four weight classes to go.

Austen Rogelstad got two back points as time expired at 138 to pull out a 5-4 win to give the Hi-Liners a 36-22 lead.

The clincher came at 145 when Evan Meilke got a reversal late in the third period for a 11-9 win to put Valley City up 39-22 with two classes left.

Tyson Hovland downed Landon Allex 10-3 at 152 for a 42-22 Hi-Liner lead. Then what could have bee the match of the night at 160 had Parker Larson, #2 at 152 wrestle Ty Weber #3 at 160. Larson got a takedown 14 seconds into the match and cruised to a 13-2 win for the final margin of 46-22.
