Leslie James Brandvold, age 90 of Valley City formerly of Kathryn, ND died on November 22, 2019 at the Sheyenne Care Center. He was born on July 20, 1929 in Kathryn to Melvin and Clara (Rue) Brandvold. He attended country school and graduated from 8th Grade. On June 19, 1955 he married Lois Nelson. They lived on the family farm and Leslie farmed with his dad and operated Brandvold Trucking for 45 years. Leslie and Lois moved to Valley City in 2000. He was a 30-year member of the Kathryn Farmers Mutual Elevator Board, served 49 years as Northland Township Treasurer, was a life-long member of Nordheim Lutheran Church rural Kathryn and after Nordheim’s closing he became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Lois; sons Michael (Sharon) Kathryn ND, Mark (Sandy) Valley City ND; his daughter, Pat (Roger) Crom Watertown, SD; eight grandchildren Chad Crom, Jennifer(Pete) Egstad, Kyle (Kacie) Crom, Trent (Nicole) Brandvold, Travis Brandvold, Adam Brandvold, Paige (Josh) Fischer, Matthew Brandvold; five great grandchildren Brandon, Hailey and Jackson Crom, Marit and Anders Egstad. He is also survived by his sister Verna Thoreson, sisters-in-law Beth Nelson, and Claudia Hochberger.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his daughter Nancy Lobeda, brother and sister-in-law Maurice and Ninie Brandvold, brothers-in-law Maurice Thoreson and Roger Nelson.
Leslie’s grandchildren were the lights of his life and he was always up for a game of Skipbo with them or putting a puzzle together with them.
The visitation with be held on Tuesday, November 26th from 5:00-7:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm at Oliver Nathan Funeral Chapel in Valley City. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 27th at 3:00pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City. Burial will be in Nordheim Cemetery, Kathryn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Nordheim Cemetery Fund or the Faith Lutheran Foundation.
