VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For only the second time in school history, Valley City will have a representative in the Class A State Volleyball Tournament. Thursday, the Hi-Liners will take on Bismarck Century, who are no strangers to the state tournament. This will be the 34th state tournament for the Patriots.
The last time the Hi-Liners made the state tournament, 2017, they lost in the semifinals to Century who was heading for its third of four straight state titles.
Despite losing All-State front row player Lauren Ware, the Patriots did not lose a step going 26-2 on the season and 17-1 in the WDA. Hi-Liner head coach Mattie Cruff says the Patriots will be a tough test.
The Hi-Liners come in to the state with a 17-12 overall record and were 13-7 in the EDC. Coach Cruff says the keys for the Hi-Liners will be, keep doing what they have been doing recently.
The Patriots and Hi-Liners will be playing the third game of the quarterfinals. The tournament will start with Mandan versus Fargo Davies at 1pm. Jamestown and Fargo Shanley will go at 3 with Valley City and Century to follow at 5. The final match of the day has West Fargo Sheyenne and Bismarck.
