JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown’s Public Works Committee discussed future projects on the STIP list.

STIP, or the Urban Roads & Urban Regional State Transportation Improvement Program list, is part of the North Dakota Department of Transportation as a way of determining federal funding for future projects.

City Engineer Travis Dillman reports that projects on the list include North Dakota Highway #20 rehabilitation, US 52 from Business Loop West Bridge of James River West to Don Wilhelm’s, and the 12th Avenue SE road from 3rd St. SE to 6th St. SE.

Dillman says in the past, the council has considered larger projects, opting to save for them rather than invest in other, less costly projects to complete with the funding.

He said one of the projects the city could consider was mill and overlay of the highly used 4th Street through the Underpass.

City Administrator Sarah Hellekson says other communities have been spending the STIP monies on smaller projects as well.

No decision was made, but Dillman encouraged the council to consider what projects to prioritize in the coming years.
