JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High volleyball held off an upset bid from seventh-seeded Dickinson the West Region quarterfinals at Jerry Meyer Arena. The Jays won 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13) to advance to the second semifinal tonight against Bismarck.
After leveling the match at 1-1 with a win in the second set, it appeared Jamestown was about to take control of the match in the third set leading 12-7. Dickinson rattled off a 10-3 to take control and eventually steal the third set and Jamestown had their backs against the wall into set four.
“I am not surprised, I said from day 1 that Dickinson was going to do something,” head coach Sara Hegerle said after the match. “They are a tremendous team.”
In the fourth, Jamestown took care of business quickly racing out to a 25-16 win pushing the match to a decisive fifth set. The Jays jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the fifth set, but Dickinson stormed back with five straight to grab the lead.
Jamestown scored six of the final nine points to win the match. Grace Hegerle’s attack attempt was blocked but landed out of play to secure the final point.
Hegerle lead the Jays with 27 kills and Ella Roaldson added 20.
The win sends the Jays to a Friday night matchup with Bismarck High, who won a four-setter over Legacy, in the second semifinal. Century and Mandan will meet in the first semifinal at 5pm.
