JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Prairie Public) – The elevated level of water releases from the Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs is leading to water over-topping state Highway One near the North Dakota South Dakota border.

Officials with the Army Corps of Engineers say it could take some time before those discharge rates will diminish.

Jessica Batterman is a Hydraulic Engineer with the Army Corps. She says this is the time of year when levels in the reservoirs are normally being dropped in preparation for run-off in the spring.

Batterman says even with the elevated discharge rates, it is unlikely the pools on the James and Pipestem will be evacuated before winter sets in.
