VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – On Monday, November 4th, Valley City officials told the Barnes County Jail Committee that the city police department will not be moving into the proposed joint law enforcement center.
Committee member Dave Carlsrud said the estimated cost share of $4 million dollars is too much for the city as we continue to pay off the permanent flood protection project.
City Administrator David Schelkoph said the property tax bill for city residents would be too costly.
He said the current police department building is in good shape.
On Tuesday, November 5th, the city commission unanimously approved of a resolution to place the city sales tax advisory vote on the ballot in the upcoming municipal election on June 9th. The vote will ask for an extension on a portion of the city sales tax used for the permanent flood protection project in Valley City.
