JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown is celebrating its history and recognizing a hospital official for preserving history during an open house on Friday, November 8th.
The event will recognize Superintendent Rosalie Etherington who received the 2019 Excellence in Local History Award by the North Dakota Historical Society. The award recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations for dedicating their time, talent and efforts to preserve, interpret, research, publish, promote or otherwise share knowledge and understanding of local history.
Etherington began as a clinical psychologist in 1994, later becoming Superintendent in 2015. She took an interest in preserving history and was instrumental in opening the North Dakota State Hospital Museum in 2010. Etherington researched and gathered materials for the museum, which is located on the fourth floor of the Learning Resource Center building. The museum will be open for viewing during the open house, which is normally open by appointment.
The event will be held from 10 am to noon on November 8th at the museum (located on the fourth floor of the Learning Resource Center building at 2605 Circle Drive in Jamestown). The event will include the award presentation, brief comments from hospital and historical society officials, refreshments, and tours.
